The Bear is a 100 mile point-to-point ultramarathon held on September 25, 2026, that starts in Logan, Utah and finishes at Bear Lake on the Idaho/Utah border. The course passes through pines, golden aspen and red maples in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest and the Bear River Range.
The 2026 edition is the event's 28th anniversary. The race is a qualifier for Hardrock and Western States 100 events and is listed as a UTMB index race. The published race fee for 2026 was $350 plus tax and an online registration fee.
Entry for 2026 used a lottery process; lottery registration was open November 15 to December 15, 2025 and the lottery was held December 27, 2025. To be eligible for the 2026 lottery, participants had to complete an official 50 mile race in under 16 hours or complete any 100K, 100 or 200 mile event within the event cutoff during the qualifying window of December 1, 2021 to December 1, 2025. Qualifiers were verified using official race results.
Runners are required to perform 8 hours of service, such as trail work or volunteering at an ultra, within the service window from September 25, 2025 to September 15, 2026; the service requirement did not need to be completed before registering.
