The Bear
The Bear is an annual point to point ultramarathon of 100 Mile distance held in late September, running from Logan, Utah to Bear Lake on the Utah-Idaho border. The course passes through pines, golden aspen and red maples of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest and the Bear River Range, finishing at Bear Lake. The 2026 edition marks the event's 28th anniversary and takes place on September 25, 2026.
The event is a qualifying race for Hardrock and Western States 100 and is listed as an UTMB index race. Entry for 2026 was allocated by lottery; the lottery registration window for that year ran from November 15 to December 15, with the lottery held December 27 and entrants and waitlist published afterward. The published race fee for 2026 was $350 plus applicable tax and the event registration platform fee.
To be eligible for the Bear 100 lottery, runners must have completed an official race of 50 miles or longer. Acceptable qualifiers include a 50 miler completed in under 16 hours or any 100K, 100 mile or 200 mile event finished within that race's cutoff. The qualifying window for entry to the 2026 lottery was December 1, 2021 through December 1, 2025 and organizers verify qualifiers using official race results.
Participants are required to perform eight hours of service, such as trail work or volunteering at an ultra, within the service window from September 25, 2025 through September 15, 2026. Event management reserves discretion in the event of cancellation and may deny or revoke entries under stated policies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
