Two Tunnels Railway Races : Bath
The Two Tunnels Railway Races are held from Brickfields Park in Bath and use the Two Tunnels shared use path beneath the city. The course runs through the Devonshire Tunnel (408 m) and the Combe Down Tunnel (1672 m); both tunnels are lit and surfaced for runners, walkers and cyclists.
The event offers multiple distances and route types:
- 500m Colourburst
- 2km Colourburst
- 5km
- 10km (Return Ticket and Hilly Ticket options)
- Half Marathon (multiple Ticket options)
- Marathon
- 50km Solo and 50km Pair
- 5 x 10km Relay
Route surfaces vary by Ticket: Return Ticket routes are essentially tarmac, Hilly Ticket routes mix tarmac, woodland trail and stone paths, and City Ticket routes use tarmac, canal towpath and river path. The organisers start runners in waves of about 100 to space runners. There is a 3 hour cut off to start lap 2 of the marathon and an 8.5 hour cut off for the 50km; other distances have no set cut off, and the event is not open to pure walkers.
Support includes feed stations with water, electrolyte and a range of snacks, bike racking, onsite toilets, coffee and food vans, and a bag drop. All finishers of 5km and longer receive a two sided 10 cm x 10 cm medal. The event donates £1 per runner to Sustrans and has raised over £30,000 to date.
