Trefonen, United Kingdom • 23 May 2026
Event Overview
The Across the Cynllaith Hillwalk offers participants the opportunity to explore the hills along the Shropshire-Mid Wales border. The event is open to both walkers and runners, with a route that crosses the Afon Cynllaith and passes through a variety of landscapes, including fields, woods, country lanes, and moorland. Both available distances conclude on the Offa’s Dyke National Trail.
The routes are well marked with tape and arrows, and participants are provided with written directions as a backup. There are two primary distance options:
- 10 miles
- 16 miles
Course Details
The event starts and finishes at Trefonen Village Hall. All participants must check in at Llansilin. The 10 mile route follows a circular path. The 16 mile route is designed in a figure-of-eight pattern with Llansilin at the center, requiring participants to visit the Llansilin checkpoint twice. The long route involves approximately 987 m of total ascent.
The course utilizes public rights of way as well as private paths specifically opened for the event. Due to the terrain, which includes steep sections and numerous stiles, sturdy footwear with good grip is recommended.
