Across The Cynllaith Hillwalk
Trefonen, United Kingdom • 23 May 2026
Event Overview
The Across the Cynllaith Hillwalk offers participants a chance to traverse the border between Shropshire and Mid Wales. This event is open to both walkers and runners, featuring a route that crosses the Afon Cynllaith and passes through a variety of landscapes including fields, woods, lanes, and moorland. The course utilizes public rights of way as well as private paths made accessible specifically for the event.
Distances and Routing
Participants can choose between two primary distances:
- 16 miles
- 10 miles
The long route involves approximately 987 meters of total ascent. Both options start and finish at Trefonen Village Hall and include a mandatory check-in at Llansilin. The 10 mile route is circular, while the 16 mile route follows a figure of eight pattern with Llansilin at the center. Participants have the flexibility to choose their preferred distance on the day of the event. Both routes conclude by following the Offa’s Dyke National Trail.
Logistics and Facilities
The routes are marked with tape and arrows, and written directions are provided as a backup. Checkpoints are located at Llansilin and Craig Sychtyn. Water is available at various points along the course, with additional refreshments such as tea, coffee, biscuits, and cake served at specific locations and the finish line.
Parking is provided at Trefonen Village Hall and the nearby playing field. Due to the presence of livestock in fields and the inclusion of many stiles, dogs must be kept under close control. Participants are advised to carry wind and waterproof clothing and wear footwear with suitable grip for steep or slippery sections. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
