Ode in the Snow 8 Hours
Ode in the Snow is a winter trail event in Holly, Michigan on January 16, 2027. The event offers multiple race options and a virtual alternative.
- Trail 10k
- 8 hour continuous ultra
- Virtual 8 hour
- Trail 4.17 miler
- Trail 5k
Participants can run continuously for up to eight hours or use a "backyard" format that starts a new lap every 60 minutes. Runners may switch from the backyard format to the continuous division during the event; switching from continuous to backyard is restricted once loop two has started. There is no chip timing.
The course is a 4.167 mile loop with about 450 feet of climbing. Roughly two thirds is technical single track, one third is moderate walking or hiking path, and a few hundred yards are on pavement. The 5k and 10k races use the same loop but omit the out-and-back section from the Overlook picnic area; those distances include an immediate u-turn after the top of the stairway feature.
Racers provide their own aid. Crew access is allowed and one chair or cooler space per racer is provided near the start/finish. Fuel camp stoves may be used with a fire extinguisher; charcoal and wood fires are restricted to designated campground facilities. Water and coffee are provided on site. No hiking poles, dogs, strollers, or headphones are allowed on the trails. A headlamp or carry light is required for trail use in low light conditions.
On-site finishers in the 5k, 10k, and 4.17 mile races receive an Ode race medal. Ultra participants who complete at least one loop receive a collectible mug. On-site ultra winners may earn entry prizes to future Ode races. Virtual racers submit results after completing their outdoor effort within the specified pre-race window.
