Two Brothers Up and Down

Two Brothers Up and Down takes place in Idaho Springs, CO on August 1, 2026, at Courtney Riley Cooper Park. Registration is listed as pending permit approval. The event uses a mix of 2wd dirt and paved roads and starts and finishes on 23rd Street on the west side of the park by the river.

Distances:

  • 10k with ~1,800' of climbing - Big Brother
  • 5k with ~570' of climbing - Baby Brother

Both courses go north for two blocks, turn left onto Virginia Street, then right into Virginia Canyon where the main climbing begins. Runners are instructed to stay on the east side of the paved road in both directions. The next half mile climbs at about 10 percent before the dirt sections split.

The 5k turns sharply right onto Virginia Canyon road (also called Oh My God road) and follows a dirt road for roughly three quarters of a mile with an average climb near 7 percent, then returns the same way.

The 10k continues straight onto Two Brothers Road. The dirt is steep at about 12 percent and less rocky, then flattens at a second junction with Virginia Canyon where an aid station is located. After the aid station the route includes sections steeper than 15 percent, then eases in the final quarter mile before the turnaround near the paved road.

Volunteers are needed for registration and pickup, finish line, and aid stations. Volunteers receive a free entry for another race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
