Weekend at Burney
Weekend at Burney is a multi day trail event held October 22, 23, 24 2026 at 22800 Guest Ranch Rd, Cassel, CA, inside Lassen National Forest. The event uses a single looped course of approximately 4.6 mile per lap that serves all timed events and distances, allowing participants to repeat the loop for their chosen duration.
The loop combines flowy single track and forest road with rolling hills and wooded sections. Each lap passes by Baum Lake and includes roughly 370 feet of elevation gain and loss. Evening laps offer views of a starry night sky.
An aid station and staging area at the start and finish is fully stocked with traditional runner snacks, soda, water, electrolytes, hot made to order food, and a broth bar. The layout provides space for tents or crew areas for multi day entrants; crew access is limited to the main staging area and not permitted on course. Pacers are permitted after 12 hours or after 50 miles.
Race swag and awards are provided. Registered runners before the swag deadline receive event swag, solo runners who reach 100 miles or more receive a belt buckle, and there are awards for highest mileage as well as medals for completing one or more loops. The swag deadline is October 1 2026 and a cash prize pool is funded by a portion of registrations.
The burro race invites competitors to bring their own donkey and offers 4.6 mile and 13.8 mile options and a 12 hour burro category; burros must be treated humanely and carry a pack saddle with shovel, pick, and pan secured, with a maximum rope length of 15 feet. Forever Home Donkey Rescue is a sponsor. Intermountain Endurance offers free race registration to Indigenous and Native American runners for any event and distance. All races are cupless and participants are expected to use a reusable cup at aid stations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
