Burney Mountain 100

The Burney Mountain 100 is a 100 Miler trail race in Cassel, California that loops through Lassen National Forest, the Burney Basin, and the Thousand Lakes Wilderness. The route begins and ends at the Burney Mountain Guest Ranch and passes volcanic peaks, dense forest, high‑country slopes, and remote singletrack.

The course varies by year depending on snowmelt. Organizers publish four possible variations named Course A, B, C, and D. Course A includes a full summit of Magee Peak and is used only in low‑snow years; the other courses adjust upper‑elevation sections based on safe access. The course totals about 15,000 feet of cumulative climbing.

Beginning in 2027, registered runners must complete either eight hours of trail work or twelve hours of race volunteer service; full submission details appear in the Runner’s Guide. The event requires participants to have the course GPX file downloaded to their watch or phone. The Runner’s Guide also contains aid station, drop bag, crew, and pacer information. Intermountain Endurance designates the race as cupless, so participants should plan to use a reusable cup.

All runners and crew receive free dry camping at Burney Mountain Guest Ranch on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights; the ranch also offers paid lodging upgrades with a $25 discount for runners. Onsite amenities include a restaurant, saltwater pool, laundry, and cornhole. The race organizer is Intermountain Endurance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
