WC-50 Ultra Trail Marathon
WC-50 Ultra Trail Marathon is an ultra trail event held at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. The race is run over several laps of the center’s trail system and is offered in two distance options.
- 50 miles
- 50 km
Ascent per lap is listed as +821/1147 ft. The event is classified under trail running and includes aid stations on course that supply salty snacks, cookies, candy, fruit, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, boiled potatoes, soft drinks, water, salt, Powerade, and limited energy gels. Runners are advised to carry a personal source of hydration.
All athletes must start with an operating headlamp or illuminated device and keep it until past sunrise, approximately 7:30am. Drop bags are allowed only at the Start/Finish aid station and must be dropped off before race start; they must be marked with the runner’s last name and/or bib number and picked up the same evening. Drop bags will not be refrigerated.
Pacers are permitted only for 50 mile solo runners and only for the final lap; 50K runners may not use pacers. Pacers must check in, sign a waiver, wear a bib, and follow event rules. Crews may provide physical support only at the Start/Finish aid station; moral support is allowed elsewhere. Runners are responsible for the actions of their pacer and crew.
Registration prices vary by distance and by pre-registration or day-of entry. Race registration is non-refundable. Events proceed rain or shine and the center may alter or cancel events. Trails remain open to other users and no e-bikes are permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
