Wainuiomata Hill Run
The Wainuiomata Hill Run is a community road and park event centred on Hugh Sinclair Park in central Wainuiomata. It offers options to run or walk over two measured routes that use roads and short park sections through bush and to a lookout.
- 6.5 km up the hill to the lookout and back
- 10 km over the hill and back
Participants can enter as runners or walkers in each distance. Additional categories include a Buggy Walk for under 5s with an adult, a Kids Kilometre Dash for 5 to 10 year olds, and arrangements for 10 to 13 year olds to take part with a parent or caregiver. Those aged over 13 may enter independently, while under 16s must provide a parent or guardian as an emergency contact.
Event operations include managed road closures, professionally controlled crossings, marshals, timing equipment, and a finish area near Mitre 10 Wainuiomata. Entry fees cover event management, supplies, timing, traffic and safety management, and a donation to Kokiri Marae Pātaka Kai.
Prizes are awarded for first, second and third places by male, female and athlete with disability categories in both distances and in run and walk divisions. Refunds are only available for illness or injury with a medical certificate; name changes are allowed free of charge. Volunteers are sought for roles such as marshalling, registration and water stations. Participants accept personal risk as outlined in the event terms.
