Ian Priest Memorial Hutt River Trail Events
A series of off-road running and walking events along the Hutt River Trail from the Remutaka Mountains area to Wellington Harbour. Events finish at McEwan Park, Petone, with a post-event celebration on the foreshore.
Event distances:
- 60 km Ultra Marathon from Cross Creek to Petone following rail trail and marathon sections.
- 42.2 km Marathon from Kaitoke to Petone along riverside trails and historic tracks.
- 21.1 km Half Marathon from Moonshine Park to Petone.
- 10 km Fun Run/Walk around McEwan Park and the Hutt River estuary.
Course and facilities: the routes use bush tracks, riverbanks, gravel and sealed footpaths, some unsealed vehicle tracks and about 5 km of public road on the marathon course. The Ultra begins with a long section on the historic Remutaka Incline Rail Trail, which includes tunnels, zigzags and a mix of uphill and downhill running. The majority of the Half Marathon and 10 km are flat with some undulations elsewhere. Aid stations are provided from about 23 km on the Ultra and regularly on the Marathon, Half and 10 km courses. Trails are well marked and supported by marshals and crew. Shuttles run from the finish at McEwan Park to the various start locations. All events share paths with other users including walkers, cyclists and occasional vehicles. Cut-off time for all events is 3pm. Note courses may change due to ongoing river trail work.
