About the race
The Middleware Adult Tough Guy & Gal Challenge in Wellington is an off-road obstacle event held at Camp Wainui, Wainuiomata. The course at this venue runs through native bush, swamp crossings and rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles, tunnels, climbs and mud pits. The event offers two distance options:
- 12 km approx. two laps
- 6 km approx. one lap
Organisers describe the 6 km option as approximately 6 kilometres in distance, with course lengths varying by venue and considered equivalent by time to a flat 6 km cross-country course. Obstacles are designed to be achievable for a wide range of participants; skipping an obstacle is permitted but makes a competitor ineligible for podium placings. There are no electrified obstacles.
Entries open 1 November 2026 with standard, late and event-day entry fee tiers set for the online and in-person periods. Personalised race numbers are available if entered by 19 April. The venue provides hot showers, parking, first aid, event support and electronic timing; hot food and beverages are available for purchase but eftpos may be unreliable, so cash is recommended. Dogs are not allowed at the venue. The adult event accepts competitors aged 13 and over. A Team Challenge is available on the 6 km option for teams of at least five with a minimum of two female members; team placings are calculated from combined individual placings.
