MAS*H Backyard Ultra 2027

MAS*H Backyard Ultra is an endurance running event held at Queen Elizabeth Park over Wellington Anniversary Weekend. Base Camp is beside the Ramaroa Centre at Mackays Crossing, approximately 45 km north of Wellington City. Entry is limited to 150 soldiers; Soldier entry fee is $150 and U18 Recruit entry is $90 via email request.

The format follows the Backyard Ultra model: participants must complete one lap of 6.71 km within the hour, and a new lap begins every hour. Runners must return to the start line before the hourly cut-off or they will be withdrawn. The event continues until a single participant completes one more lap than the rest and is declared the winner.

Terrain includes coastal edge, open paddocks, the historic Yankee Trail, wetlands with kahikatea remnants, and former farm tracks. Each lap has approximately 80 m of elevation gain.

All participants are self-sufficient and required to bring shelter, food, hydration, and any equipment needed for extended field operations. Crews are welcome to support participants, within the event emphasis on self-sufficiency. The event name references the 1970s television series MAS*H and its themes of operating under pressure. Proceeds support the restoration of on-site World War II exhibits in partnership with the Kapiti U.S. Marines Trust. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
