The Sussex Stride 2026

The Sussex Stride is a long distance challenge starting and finishing at Plumpton College, Lewes, crossing countryside in the South Downs National Park and visiting Offham, Lewes, Glynde, Firle, Alfriston, East Dean, Litlington, Norton, Rodmell and Falmer. The route covers 52 miles with 7,000 ft of ascent to be completed in a maximum of 23 hours.

There are seven staffed checkpoints on the route that provide food and drink, a light meal mid event and a breakfast at the finish, all with vegetarian options. All finishers receive a printed certificate or an emailed PDF version.

Navigation is part of the challenge; the route is not signposted. Entrants will be sent a full route description and a GPX file and an outline map will be made available before the event. Maps covering the whole route (OS Landranger 198 and 199 or Explorer OL11 and OL25) should be carried in paper or electronic form. A mug and a torch or headtorch are required to be carried by each entrant.

Entrants must be 18 years or older on the day. LDWA membership is not required. Places are limited to 250 and a waiting list will operate if the event is oversubscribed. No entries are accepted on the day. Changing rooms, showers and sleeping facilities are available at the finish and parking is available at the college. Checkpoint opening and closing times must be observed and checkpoint marshals may retire any entrant considered unfit to continue; transport back to Plumpton College will be provided for retirees.
