About the race
Following a relaunch in 2024, the Alf Shrubb Memorial Races return to Slinfold on 13 September 2026 to mark the village runner Alf Shrubb and to raise funds for local community causes.
The event includes multiple distances and family races:
- 10k : two scenic laps finishing at Slinfold Cricket Club
- 5k : one lap on a closely similar route
- Children's races : a one-mile race (ages 8–11) with the Inter-Schools Challenge Trophy and a 5–7 year-old race at the cricket club
All races are chip timed and finish on the cricket pitch. The mixed trail routes use local footpaths, bridleways and trails through the West Sussex countryside. A professionally led warm-up takes place on the cricket field before runners move to the start line on Clapgate Lane.
Event facilities include refreshments (tea, coffee, soft drinks), homemade cakes, a fully licensed bar and additional ladies-only toilets. Free parking will be available with details issued before the event. Every finisher receives a bespoke medal that replicates Alf Shrubb’s original medal, and awards are presented for top male and female finishers, age-group winners and top Slinfold residents.
A pair of Alf Shrubb’s running shoes, normally held at Horsham Museum, will be on display at the Cricket Club on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
