South Coast Ultra Challenge

The South Coast Ultra Challenge is a multi-day trail event on the South Downs Way with an Eastbourne start. The route passes Beachy Head, the Seven Sisters, reaches Brighton at the halfway point, crosses Devil’s Dyke and follows paths that lead toward Arundel on the full 100 km route. The event is planned for 5-6 September 2026 and 4-5 September 2027 and accommodates 2000 participants.

The event offers multiple distance options:

  • 100 km
  • 50 km
  • 25 km

Support infrastructure includes covered rest stops approximately every 12.5 km, with larger stops at about 25 km intervals. Participants receive snacks every 12.5 km, meals every 25 km, hot drinks, water and energy drinks at all stops, and lighter options aimed at runners. Rest stops include toilets, medical areas, changing rooms and baggage collection.

Timing and safety features include a timing system that scans at rest stops and logs progress in a control room, plus GPS tracking via an event app. Medical teams, paramedics, podiatrists and massage therapists are available at rest stops and on the route. Camping packages are available for participants on the full two-day route, with hot showers and chill-out areas. Finishers receive a medal, a t-shirt, a glass of fizz and a finisher’s meal. Shuttle buses and transfers operate to nearby train stations and other locations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
