The Big Deal at Great Seal
The event at Great Seal State Park in Chillicothe, OH offers multiple distances on a primarily single-track trail course organized by RunFluent. The main circuit is a roughly 20-mile loop used repeatedly for longer distances. Each loop now has about 3100–3200 feet of elevation gain, and the course is approximately 95% single track and 5% dual track.
Distances:
- 100 mile five laps of the 20 mile course
- 100k three laps plus a 2 mile finishing loop
- 20 Miler one lap
- Adult 5k single loop
- 5k YOUTH single loop
The course includes a variety of named trail features and sections, and the initial loop contains the Sugarloaf climb while later loops bypass that climb. A previously used Shrake Road section has been removed for safety, which increases the amount of two-way traffic on some sections by about one mile.
Aid is provided at five stops on the 20-mile loop, with locations at the start/finish (Ireland Shelter), Rocky Road, and Lick Run. Crew access is allowed only at Ireland Shelter and Lick Run; crew contact at Rocky Road or other on-course locations is not permitted except in emergencies. Pacers are permitted for 100k and 100 mile entrants after the first lap, with one pacer at a time; pacers must be registered and use designated access points.
The 100 mile event has a total cutoff of 36 hours, and runners must begin their final lap within 28 hours. Mandatory on-person gear for 100 mile and 100k participants includes a GPX file, two headlamps or equivalent backup, a whistle, an emergency foil blanket, at least 1 L carrying capacity for water, and a collapsible cup. Drop bags and aid station procedures, finisher awards, and a no-refund with deferral policy are specified by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
