About the race
The Trail Animals Running Club TARC To Hale and Back is a trail event at Hale Reservation in Westwood, Massachusetts, offering 6 hour and 3.5 mile options on an approximately 3.5 mile loop that starts and finishes at Powissett Lodge (use 80 Carby St for GPS). The course mixes single track and double track fire roads, runs along a pond with a couple of small beaches, and includes mostly smooth terrain with roots, rocks, small streams, modest hills, two crossings of Carby Street, boardwalks, and wood bridges. Course markings include directional arrows, pink ribbons, flagging, and signs; organizers provide a course map and a GPX file for GPS devices.
There is one aid station at the lodge where participants can access their personal gear; this is a cupless event so runners must carry their own cup, bottle, or hydration system. Typical aid station items include electrolyte mix, soda, water and ice, fruit, cookies, candy, chips, peanut butter sandwiches, and pickles. Pacers are not allowed; crew access is limited to the start/finish aid area. Parking will be tight and may require walking up to about 0.75 miles from a parking area; organizers note Hale Summer Club as a common parking option about a 2/3 to 3/4 mile walk to the lodge.
Entries are nonrefundable, there is no race day registration, and online registration closes at the start of race week. The event acknowledges the land as originally home to the Wôpanâak Wampanoag people. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
