TARC Winter Classic
Trail Animals Running Club presents the TARC Winter Classic at Middlesex Fells Reservation in Stoneham, Massachusetts. The event offers three distances:
- 8 mile
- 32 mile
- 40 mile
The course uses the DCR Middlesex Fells Reservation Skyline Trail and consists of loops of the white blazed Skyline Trail. Runners can expect roots, rocks, and frequent climbs and descents typical of New England woodland trails, with occasional views toward the Boston skyline. The trail is marked with white blazes only and minimal additional race-day markings.
Participants should review the course maps and the available GPX file beforehand and consider loading the GPX onto a GPS device for reassurance. If a runner goes off course during the event they must backtrack to the marked route. Organizers may review GPS files and finish results if there is a question about following the course; failure to follow the marked course can affect official finish status.
Aid stations are located at the loop start/finish and roughly halfway around the loop (about 3.5 miles counterclockwise or 4.5 miles clockwise). This is a cupless race so each participant must carry their own hydration system. Portable restrooms at both aid stations will include menstrual products.
Cutoffs are enforced for participant safety and park staff time; a headlamp is required for participants who begin their final loop close to the cutoff. No race day distance changes are allowed. Parking is at 4 N Border Road at Hall Memorial Pool and Splash Pad, about a 0.5 mile walk to the start area, with overflow parking on Fallon Road. Event capacity is limited and the organizer does not offer refunds, transfers, or deferrals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
