Sussex Downs Trail Run
The Sussex Downs Trail Run is set in the South Downs National Park and starts from Plumpton Racecourse. The venue is within easy reach of Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27 and A23.
There are three route options:
- 21.3 km Half Marathon route
- 15.5 km Medium route
- 10.8 km Short route
Each route begins with a flattish 3.5 km tree-lined section before a sustained climb onto the South Downs Way. From the ridge runners follow a loop on firm trails toward Brighton, return on the South Downs Way and descend from the hilltop into a flat final 3 km to the finish. The ridge sections offer views over the Sussex countryside, Seven Sisters Country Park and distant sea views.
The event uses chip timing and a fully signed course. On-course provisions include water stations, course marshals and first aid cover. Finishers receive a medal, a refreshing drink, a finisher's goodie and a personalised certificate. The race is plastic free at water stations; participants are asked to bring a reusable cup or bottle. Bib numbers are collected at registration on arrival and runners should bring their QR code for collection. Signage along the route uses pink arrows and pink tape, and hazards or road junctions are marked with caution signs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
