Sussex Downs Trail Run
The Sussex Downs Trail Run takes place in the South Downs National Park and starts from Plumpton Racecourse at the foot of the South Downs. The venue is described as well equipped and is within easy reach of Brighton, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill and the A27 and A23.
There are three route options:
- 21.3 km Half Marathon
- 15.5 km Medium route
- 10.8 km Short route
Each route begins with a flattish, tree-lined 3.5 km section before a sustained climb to the South Downs Way. From the ridge runners follow a loop of sturdy trails towards Brighton, return along the South Downs Way, then descend from the hilltop and complete a flat final 3 km to the finish. The climb and ridge sections offer vistas over the Sussex countryside, the Seven Sisters Country Park and distant sea views.
The event uses chip timing and provides a medal, finisher goodies, a refreshing drink and a personalised certificate. The course is fully signed with PINK arrows and PINK tape; hazards and road junctions are marked with caution signs. On-course support includes water stations, first aid cover and marshals. Participants collect their race bib on arrival and the event operates a plastic free policy so runners should bring a reusable cup or bottle.
