Event overview

The Aberfan Memorial Run is a timed event held by Phoenix Running South Wales in Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil (CF48 4QE). It is held in remembrance of the victims of the 1966 Aberfan disaster. A contribution from every race entry will be donated to the Aberfan Memorial Charity. Welsh Athletics race licence has been applied for.

Participants choose how many laps to complete of a set loop. A trial "no medal" entry option is offered from £20. Standard entry fees listed are £33 (affiliated) and £35 (unaffiliated).

Course and logistics

The event uses an out-and-back lap of 5.3 km (3.28 miles) on the Taff Trail at Aberfan. The minimum distance is 3.28 miles. The course surface is fully tarmac and the overall elevation gain is 51 m. The event is run with a 7-hour maximum time window for total distance. The course holds a UKACM certificate of course accuracy (25/471).

Free parking is available at Aberfan Community Centre (what3words ///puppy.snuck.obey). The nearest train station is Merthyr Vale, about 1 mile from the start.
