Sedbergh Hills Fell Race
The Sedbergh Hills Fell Race is an annual fell event in its 47th year, based at the People's Hall, Howgill Lane, Sedbergh. The course covers 22.5 km / 14 miles with 1830 m / 6004 ft of ascent across the Howgill Fells, which are described as vast grassy hills with steep climbs and descents and sections of fast running.
The route leaves the valley onto open fell, includes steep climbs, river crossings, areas of thick bracken and long pathless sections where navigation is required. There are six marked checkpoints on the course, with the highest point at The Calf and the finish back at the People's Hall. Limited water is available on route.
Event details include an entry limit of 450 with no entry on the day, a minimum age of 18, and fee categories for FRA members and non members. Entries open Friday 19 June 2026 and close Saturday 15 August 2026.
Safety and equipment rules are strict: full kit is required, a kit check is carried out at registration and random kit checks may occur at the finish. The use of GPS is forbidden and the race is held under FRA rules. Parking is provided only at Sedbergh School, Lupton Fields. Dogs are not permitted on the event field.
