Beyond the Lune Winter Ultra

Held on 19 December 2026, the Beyond the Lune Winter Ultra is a 65 km loop that starts and finishes in the centre of Kirkby Lonsdale and includes about 2000 m of ascent. The route is provided as a GPX file and participants must be able to self navigate using a GPS unit with a backup map or a second GPS device rather than a phone.

The course is mostly on footpaths and bridleways with approximately 10 km on tarmac. It passes seven summits and several local landmarks, and includes technical sections such as the route feature referred to as the Radical steps. There are two checkpoints/feed stations along the loop offering hot food, drinks, and water.

Event inclusions noted for entrants are a start pastry and hot drink, checkpoints with refreshments, beyond the lune merchandise when available, and a finisher beer and pizza. The published entry fee is £45. Entry is restricted to participants aged 18 or older.

Mandatory kit will be checked at registration and includes a carrying system such as a rucksack, race vest, or bum bag; trail shoes; waterproof jacket and over trousers with taped seams; warm hat and gloves; a survival bag; GPS unit with backup map or second GPS; compass; whistle; a small first aid kit; food and water; long sleeve base layer; and a head torch with spare batteries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
