Ben Nevis Race

The Ben Nevis Race is a mountain running event held on Saturday 5 September 2026 at New Town Park, Claggan, Fort William. Competitors run from the foot of the highest mountain in the UK to the summit and then return to the start.

Entry is limited to 600 participants and the event is held annually on the first Saturday in September. Registration is managed on the day and competitors must present their Entry Invitation Receipt to collect race packs and bib numbers. A race t-shirt is provided at registration to those who chose one.

Eligibility requires participants to be at least 18 years old on 1 January 2026 and to be members of a bona fide athletics or running club; unattached runners are not permitted. Entrants must have completed a minimum of three Category AM hill races within the last five years. An automatic exemption is given to those who completed the Ben Nevis Race in 3 hours 30 minutes or less in the past five years. Other exemption requests for similar mountain or endurance events within five years may be considered by the committee with supporting evidence.

Entries are placed on a pre-selection list; invitations are issued to 600 entrants who have one week to accept. Entries cannot be transferred to another person and numbers cannot be substituted. There are no refunds for this race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
