Runners v Riders 2026
Runners v Riders takes place on 26 December 2026. It is a traditional Boxing Day event in which runners race cyclists to compete for the Markham Cup. The first six competitors across the finish line win the cup. The event is held at Friday Woods, a military training ground in Colchester.
The course is off road and described as very muddy and uneven, with ditches and water crossings. The main route is three laps covering approximately 3.5 miles and a junior route covers two laps of roughly 1 mile. The event uses a mass start format; collisions between runners and cyclists can occur. Trail trainers are recommended and participants enter at their own risk.
Logistics noted by the organiser include on-site number collection, limited parking at the location, and toilets on site. There is no bag drop. The junior race has a cash entry fee of £5 with on-the-day sign-ups. A pre-entry price of £27 applies until 21 Dec 2026. The event status is open and total places are listed as 110. Photos and results will be posted to the organiser's Facebook page after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
