About the race
Its Grim Up North Running stages the Rothwell Cakeathon on 2 May 2027 at Leeds Skelton Lake Services off the M1 (J45), with the trail course routed into Rothwell Country Park. The route mixes woodland, riverside paths, grass trails and short sections of road, and includes one notable undulation that provides a view of Leeds City Centre.
The event offers multiple distance options:
- Marathon
- 20 Miles
- 15 Miles
- 10 Mile
- 5 Mile
Water and feed stations are positioned at about three-mile intervals; participants are asked to bring a reusable cup or bottle as the event aims to be cupless and eco-focused. Runners have access to onsite facilities at Skelton Lake Services. For every participant, 50p is donated to the RSPB. A generous 6.5-hour cut-off is in place and the event accepts both runners and walkers.
Course support includes marshals and there may be some unmarshalled road crossings, so participants should stay alert. Large over-ear headphones are not permitted; bone-conducting headphones or using one ear only are suggested for safety. The finish area provides a bespoke medal, a selection of cakes, and hot and cold drinks. There is free parking at the venue and car sharing is encouraged to reduce environmental impact. The event is licensed by the TRA under UKA rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
