About the race
Ring O’ Fire presents multi-day coastal ultra events on the Isle of Anglesey. The main event, Ring O’ Fire 130, starts and finishes at Breakwater Country Park, Holyhead, and is a clockwise full circumnavigation following the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path. The course covers 130 miles (209 km) with nine checkpoints; runners must check in and out of each checkpoint and meet mandatory cut-off times or be withdrawn.
Terrain is predominantly trail with sections of quiet public roads, gates, and stiles. Participants encounter sandy and pebble beaches, steep cliff-top paths, headlands, rocky coves, sand dunes, farmland, forest sections, and seaside villages. The route includes about 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) of total ascent and descent but is mainly low-level; the highest point is Holyhead Mountain at 720 feet (220 meters). Resupply bags are transported from the start to the first checkpoint.
The Firelighter 50 starts at Breakwater Country Park, Holyhead, and finishes at Moelfre. That route is roughly 47 miles (76 km) with three checkpoints and about 4,500 feet (1,372 meters) of ascent and descent. This section is predominantly trail and contains many undulations as the path dips between headlands. Free parking is provided in a designated event field area but is unsupervised and used at owners risk.
