Route overview

Ring O' Fire 130 is a full clockwise circumnavigation of the Isle of Anglesey that starts and finishes at Breakwater Country Park, Holyhead. The route follows the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path and is predominantly trail with some quiet public roads, gates and stiles. Runners must check in and out of each checkpoint and meet mandatory cut-off times or face withdrawal from the race.

  • Ring O' Fire 130: 130 miles (209 km)
  • Firelighter 50: ~47 miles (76 km)

The course surface includes sandy and pebble beaches, steep cliff-top paths, headlands, rocky coves, sand dunes, farmland, forest sections and seaside villages. The Ring O' Fire 130 features about 13,000 feet (4,000 meters) of cumulative ascent and descent, with the highest point at Holyhead Mountain (720 feet / 220 meters). The Firelighter 50 covers around 4,500 feet (1,372 meters) of ascent and descent and contains many undulations between headlands.

Free parking is provided in a designated area on the approach road to Breakwater Country Park; the car park is unsupervised over the weekend and vehicles are left at the owner’s risk. An early-morning bus service from Moelfre to Breakwater Park is available for £15 and can be booked through the event entry process. Resupply bag transport is provided from the start to checkpoints.
