Prickly Pedal
Prickly Pedal is an event on the Maricopa Trail that includes mountain bike races and a separate trail run between Cave Creek and Lake Pleasant Regional Park in Peoria, AZ. Distances offered include:
- 36 Mile point to point mountain bike course
- 15 Mile mountain bike course starting at the Pioneer Living History Museum
- 10 Mile out and back trail run beginning and ending at Lane 10 Boat Ramp
The 36 Mile MTB is a point to point route from downtown Cave Creek along Spur Cross and the Maricopa Trail to Lake Pleasant. The course includes rocky and sandy sections, short steep climbs and descents, and surface changes that may require dismounting and hiking. Two on-course aid stations are located near miles 15 and 30; the finish area also has a main aid station. Crews are allowed at the start and finish only. Drop bags are available at the finish.
The 15 Mile MTB leaves the museum grounds, joins the Maricopa Trail, has a relatively flat opening segment, an aid station near mile 9, and more climbing in the final miles. The 10 Mile trail run follows Frogs Tank, Beardsley, Wild Burro, and Pipeline Canyon trails to Pipeline Cove and returns along the same route. Each distance has at least one aid station with water, electrolyte drinks, snacks, and fruit. Proceeds support the Maricopa Trail and Park Foundation.
