Crown King Scramble

The Crown King Scramble is a point to point trail race covering 50 Kilometers (31 miles) from Lake Pleasant to Crown King, Arizona. The route begins at the shores of Lake Pleasant, crosses the Sonoran Desert and ascends into the Bradshaw Mountains, moving from scrub and junipers into pine forest. The course surface is primarily rolling dirt forest roads in the first half and rough four wheel drive jeep trail on the back half. Total elevation gain is 6,828 feet, starting near 1,700 feet and reaching a high point near 6,520 feet before a final descent into the finish at Crown King.

Five aid stations on course at miles 8.5, 15.3, 19.1, 22.2 and 27.3, plus the finish at mile 31.1, provide water, an electrolyte drink, fruit and sweet and salty snacks. Drop bags are permitted only at French Creek (mile 15.3) and at the finish and will be transported to the finish after the French Creek aid station closes. Crews and pacers are not allowed on course.

The race operates a cupless policy so runners must carry a personal container for refills. The course is marked with orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots and yellow laminated signs at junctions; wrong way flagging and pink signage mark non-race trails. One-way shuttle transportation from the finish back to the start is available for participants for an additional fee. Live tracking and chip timing are provided on race day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
