About the race
The Powderface Mountain event offers trail running options in Kananaskis from Station Flats. Distances offered include:
- Full Marathon : 42 km with about 1200 m of elevation gain
- Half Marathon
The marathon course crosses trail singletrack typical of Kananaskis and includes two creek crossings. Participation is limited to 150 runners.
All runners must carry mandatory equipment during the run: a hydration pack or the ability to carry at least 1 litre of fluid, a jacket, gloves, and a head covering that covers the ears. Suggested items include on-course calories, trail shoes, and bear spray; hiking poles are optional.
Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, cola, fruit, pretzels, and chips. There are aid station cut-off times for marathon runners, and aid stations are located near the 23 km and 32 km marks. Drop bags may be placed at aid stations when labeled with the runner name and desired checkpoint. Washroom facilities are available in the start/finish parking lot. Parking at Station Flats is limited.
Race rules prohibit dogs, headphones, strollers, and baby joggers on the course. All finishers receive a finisher medal; additional prizes are awarded to first, second and third place in each gender for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
