Pennine Barrier Ultra 50

The Pennine Barrier Ultra 50 is a 50 mile trail ultramarathon organised by GB Ultras in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, starting and finishing at Malham. The course covers 2,593 m of ascent and follows sections of the Pennine Way and the Yorkshire 3 Peaks way-marked trails, including Malham Cove, the Dry Valley of Watlowes, Malham Tarn, Fountains Fell, Janet's Foss and the three peaks Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. A GPX file and live online tracking are provided for the route.

The event has 750 places, a race cut-off of 18 hours and offers ITRA and UTMB mountain index points. It is held under the Trail Running Association permit and UK Athletics rules. Entrants must be at least 20 years old and must have completed an organised marathon-distance event before race day.

There are five staffed checkpoints supplying drinks, cola, tailwind, sandwiches, salted potatoes, fruit and snacks, with medical cover present. Checkpoint cut-off times are strictly enforced. No dropbags are permitted and mandatory kit must be carried at all times; items include a waterproof coat with sealed seams, a long-sleeved base layer kept dry, at least 1 litre of water capacity, a fully charged mobile phone in waterproof covering, an emergency blanket, a headtorch (min 75 lumens), a backup light (min 25 lumens), 500 kcal of emergency rations, a whistle and the event GPS tracker. Random kit checks will take place and failure to comply can lead to disqualification.

Supporter access to certain checkpoints is restricted due to limited parking and landowner requests. Entry fees are listed at £139 unaffiliated and £137 affiliated. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
