OUTLAST SAN JOSE
OUTLAST SAN JOSE is a six-hour trail endurance challenge held on natural trail terrain with dirt, rocks, roots, and changes in elevation. The event format requires competitors to complete a 5K lap every hour, on the hour. Each lap must be finished within the hour to continue; finishing early allows rest until the next round, and failing to complete a lap on time eliminates the participant from further rounds.
Participants can run or walk as long as each 5K is completed within the hour. Between laps there is time to recover, refuel, and prepare for the next lap. Basecamp and the loop start offer water, basic hydration, and snacks; this is a cupless event, so runners should bring their own bottle or hydration system.
Earning items and awards is based on laps completed and combined times. Completing four laps earns a “Grit Earned” patch; five laps earns a “Survivor” patch; completing all six laps awards a premium OUTLAST medal. All participants receive a premium OUTLAST tee. Local winners are the top male and female with the fastest combined 5K times; finishers are ranked on a world leaderboard. The fastest runner across all OUTLAST 6-hour events receives a $1,000 national prize. The top five male and female champions from each city qualify for the Outlast World Championship in DFW on December 4, 2027, where championship prizes of $1,200, $800, and $500 are awarded to first through third place.
