New Years Trail Challenge at Canyon of the Eagles
The event is a two-day trail running and rucking event held January 1-2, 2027 at Canyon of the Eagles near Burnet, Texas (16942 Ranch Road 2341, Burnet, TX 78611). Courses use looped trail sections and river-side routes with limestone bluffs, wooded trails and Colorado River views.
Distances offered include:
- 62.2 miles THE EAGLE 100K ULTRA
- 31.1 miles 50K Ultramarathon
- 26.2 miles Marathon
- 13.1 miles Half Marathon (Day 1 and Day 2)
- 10K
- 5K
Ultramarathon courses are looped and list an elevation change of 512 ft gain and 531 ft loss per loop, with a 24-hour cutoff for the 100K and 50K ultramarathons. The marathon lists a 12-hour cutoff and varied trail terrain. The half-marathon route is described as looped with river views and gentle inclines; a ruck division uses the same 13.1-mile route.
Ruck events have published weight requirements and verification procedures. The 13.1-mile ruck division specifies minimum weights of 20 lbs for participants under 150 lb and 30 lbs for participants over 150 lb, with weights checked at the start and finish. Other ruck categories note weight checks at the start and finish and may include additional checks during the course.
