Mrs. McCormick's Ice House
Mrs. McCormick's Ice House is a winter trail event held at Ontario County Park with race headquarters at Wilson Lodge and parking next to the lodge. Park roads and parking will be plowed if needed. The main park road is one-way, counter-clockwise, so participants should be aware when leaving the park.
The event uses a roughly 4 mile loop that can be completed multiple times. Options for race distance include:
- 4 miles (one loop)
- 8 miles (two loops)
- 12 miles (three loops)
A snowshoe race is new for 2027 and may be run if conditions permit; if the snowshoe is canceled, registrants may choose among the running options. The race day course may change because of trail or weather conditions. The course avoids the western slope where snow drifts can get deep. Footwear with an aggressive tread, traction, microspikes, and gaiters are suggested.
Mrs. McCormick's Ice House is the second race in the Common Ground Winter Trail Series. Series registrants are eligible for bonuses including free entry into the Go Forth! event, series merchandise, and entry into a random draw for membership in the FarFetched Mug Club, which includes a 24 fl oz mug custom-crafted by Wizard of Clay.
Post-race features at Wilson Lodge include restrooms suitable for changing, a heated lodge with a fireplace, buckwheat pancakes with Naples Maple Farm maple syrup, chai latte from The Chai Guy, hot chocolate with a Skratch Recovery option, Skratch Hydration beverages, fresh fruit, and a variety of snacks.
