Mineshaft 10k - Event details
The Mineshaft 10k is a trail race near Buchanan, VA that uses part of the Hellgate 100k course (miles 47 to 52) run in reverse. The route follows the Glenwood Horse Trail between Bobletts Gap Road and the Bearwallow Trailhead and passes several old mine sites.
The course begins with about 1 mile on a dirt road, then climbs steeply for 0.3 miles onto the Glenwood Horse Trail. The remaining roughly 5 miles stay on the Glenwood Horse Trail and feature rolling terrain until the final 1.5 miles, which include a long downhill section. Runners should note rock gardens near the 5 mile mark.
Field size is limited by parking; the event is capped at 100 vehicles. Shuttles will transport participants to the start, which is 4.1 miles from the main parking area. A virtual 10K option is offered as a run-anywhere entry and is listed as an RNUTS qualifying race. The organizer states that registrants who register by 1/2/25 will receive a race shirt; registrants after that date will receive a Mountain Junkies LLC socks hoo rag.
