Lorne Mountain to Surf
The Powercor Lorne Mountain to Surf is an annual community run organised by the Lorne Surf Life Saving Club and its volunteers as a major fundraiser for the club and its programs. The event is an out-and-back route of approximately 8km, beginning in the Lorne township on the Great Ocean Road, ascending through Otway forest ranges to the St George River track, following the river back to the Southern Ocean, then returning to Lorne via the pier and cliff track to the Surf Life Saving Club.
The 2027 event is scheduled for Friday 8 January 2027 and entries open on Monday 2 November 2026. The 2026 event was cancelled because of high fire danger ratings and a 24-hour closure of the Great Otway National Park; after that cancellation T-shirts were mailed to entrants and Mountain Goat award tallies were incremented.
The event offers an official Virtual Mountain to Surf option; virtual entries contribute to Mountain Goat tallies and qualify for the event T-shirt. Mountain Goat medals recognise participants for every ten events completed. Supporting materials available for entrants include training plans, medical guidelines, race day information with maps and timing details, and event merchandise.
