Event Overview
The Leigh-on-Sea Striders 10k is an after-dark multi-terrain running event held in Leigh-on-Sea. This event features a Halloween theme and includes a route that passes through the Two Tree Island Nature Reserve for a dedicated dark section. Participation requires the use of a headtorch or body torch.
The event offers two main distances:
- 10 km: Open to participants aged 16 and over.
- 5 km: Open to adults and juniors aged 11-15.
Features and Support
The races are held under a UKA Race Permit and utilize chip timing. Every participant receives an instant result printout and a certificate upon completion. Finishers are also provided with a uniquely themed, sustainably-sourced medal and a glass of prosecco. Additionally, runners can receive a 20% discount at RunActive stores by presenting their race bib.
This is a not-for-profit event that supports local and nationwide charities, including Gold Geese, which assists families of children fighting cancer, and the Southend Foodbank. The event is supported by the Essex Wildlife Trust.
Participation Details
For the 5 km junior category, runners between the ages of 11 and 15 must be accompanied by an adult. While the event is themed for Halloween, fancy dress is optional, though a bonus prize is awarded for the best costume.
