24 Hours on the Trails : Leighton Hall estate
This is a 24-hour running and walking event set within the Leighton Hall estate in the Silverdale and Arnside Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The course is a closed loop of 5.75 km that stays on estate land and does not use public roads. Surfaces include grass, packed trail and some gravel, with a couple of hills and wooded sections.
Competitor formats include Solo, Pairs and Teams of up to 12 people, with one person on course at any time for team entries. Laps are timed by chip and a half-way timing point must be crossed for a lap to register. Live timing will show completed laps during the event. Prizes are awarded in Open and Veteran categories, and additional awards recognise the greatest time spent on the course.
Aid and facilities include fresh water, an electrolyte drink and energy cubes at the start/finish and a daytime water station midway around the lap. A range of caterers will be on site and Leighton Hall Cafe will be open at selected times. Medals are optional at order and the cost of declined medals supports Cumbria Wildlife Trust.
Camping is for competitors only and offers basic facilities such as cold water and toilets. Car parking is provided a short distance from the camping area with no re-entry once a competitor has left the car park. Spectators are welcome in the start/finish area; dogs are not permitted on the course. Medical cover will be provided throughout the event.
