Lake District Ultra Challenge

Lake District Ultra Challenge is a multi-distance trek and trail run in the Southern Lake District on 5 to 6 June 2027. Basecamp is in Kendal. The main route is a 100 km loop that passes Garburn Pass, historic Ambleside, a midway point by Lake Windermere, forests and nature reserves, and includes a couple of hills.

Available distances:

  • 100 km loop
  • ~50 km
  • 25 km
  • Lakes Trail Marathon
  • 10K Ambleside

The event provides continuous support along the route. Snack stops are placed about every 12.5 km and meal stops about every 25 km. Major covered rest stops sit at roughly 25 km, 50 km, 75 km and 100 km, and include seating, toilets, medical areas, baggage pick up and catering. Hot drinks, water and energy drinks are available at all stops; dietary requirements are catered for and lighter options are offered for runners.

A signed route is marked with arrows and glow-sticks at night, and GPS tracking is available through the event app. The timing system scans participants at rest stops so progress is logged and monitored. Medical, paramedic, podiatry and massage teams are present at rest stops and along the route.

For the full 100 km option there is a base camp with camping packages or the option to pitch independently; sites have hot showers and drinks stations. Shuttle buses and transfers run to the nearest train station and there is on-site parking. Finishers receive a medal, a t shirt, a photo finish and a finishers meal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
