About the race
The Knaresborough Crag Rat Run on Sunday 27 September 2026 is a 5 mile multi-terrain race around Knaresborough that largely follows the River Nidd. The route starts at Knaresborough Cricket Club and leads along trails descending the crag to a tarmaced section beside the river. Runners follow mixed terrain through woodland, return on a faster tarmaced section to a narrow riverside path, cross the bridge near the Petrifying Well and complete a final riverside section before climbing back up the crag to the finish.
Approximately half of the course is on tarmac and the profile is undulating. The event is licensed (ARC 26/0763) and has an entry limit of 250 places. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs. Race numbers with embedded timing chips are issued on the day.
Facilities at race headquarters, Knaresborough Cricket Club, include water stations, distance markers, toilets, changing facilities and baggage storage; there are no showers. Prizes are awarded for the first three finishers and for veteran categories, and vouchers from local hospitality venues are included among the prizes. Tea, coffee and cakes will be available for cash donations, with all money raised going to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. Entry fees are £14 for affiliated runners and £16 for unaffiliated runners; on-the-day entry is possible for an additional £2 and card facilities are not available.
