About the race
The Kendall Mountain Run takes place in Silverton, Colorado on July 18, 2027 and offers mountain trail races on jeep roads and a final scramble to the summit of Kendall Mountain.
- 12 Mile, summit at 13,066 feet, 3,960 feet total elevation gain
- 11K, turnaround at Deer Park, about 1,616 feet total elevation gain
Both races start in downtown Silverton and use jeep road climbs. The 12-mile route climbs from about 9,318 feet to the summit near 13,066 feet and includes a final roughly 300-foot vertical scramble before a fast descent to Memorial Park. The 12-mile course then continues over the backside and reconnects at the Notch to avoid narrow scramble sections; if summit conditions are unsafe, runners may be turned around at the Notch.
Aid stations and cutoffs are published for each course. The 12-mile has aid points at Deer Park and the Notch, with no aid at the summit; the 11K turns at Deer Park and returns to Memorial Park. The event enforces a 6-hour time limit with a 1:00 PM cutoff. Aid stations allow drop bags for the 11K and a designated drop bag area is available at the start/finish.
The event is cupless; participants must carry their own container for refills. Crews are not permitted outside the start/finish area and pacers are not allowed. The race traces its origins to a 1908 bar bet and has been held annually since 1978. Registration closes July 12, 2027; race amenities include a registration-timed race shirt, chip timing, finisher awards, and podium awards. Course records include a 12-mile men's 1:31:05 (2017) and women's 1:52:40 (2021), and 11K records of 56:34 (men, 2017) and 1:06:20 (women, 2022).
