Groovy Kinder Love
Groovy Kinder Love is a pair of linked fell races on Kinder in the Peak District with a single entry that covers both routes and a field limit of 200 runners. The event uses Sites of Special Scientific Interest routes and public rights of way, so the course follows agreed paths and includes many checkpoints to prevent off‑piste travel.
There are two course options:
- Groovy (AL), about 24.5 km, climb approx 1290 m
- Groovy Baby (BM), about 15.5 km, climb approx 650 m
Both races start together and split at three points on the route (Pennine Way junction / Jacob's Ladder, Broad Clough, and the bottom of Sandy Heys). The Baby route bypasses the Jacob's Ladder descent and some climbs, then rejoins the main route near Benny's Bridge for the final section to the finish at the Scout Hut in Hayfield. The bottom of Sandy Heys has a time cutoff; competitors arriving after that point may be redirected onto the shorter line.
Entry is available in advance and on the day, with the stated pre‑entry fee and on‑the‑day fee. Minimum age is 18 and the event is run under FRA rules. There is a 100% kit check and mandatory equipment includes a waterproof whole‑body cover with taped seams, hat and gloves, a map and compass, a whistle, and emergency food. Navigation skills are required as most of the course is unmarked. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
