GrassRoots Backyard Ultra

GrassRoots Backyard Ultra is a Last Runner Standing event held in Okotoks, AB on June 26, 2027. The event uses a 6.71 kilometre loop that follows the Sheep River pathway, includes a short section of single-track trail, and has about 34 metres of elevation gain per loop.

Runners must complete each 6.71 kilometre loop within one hour. A new lap begins at the top of each hour, and warning whistles are given three, two, and one minute before the start of each lap. Competitors must start moving at the bell and must be in the starting corral before the next lap begins. Runners who do not complete a loop within the allotted hour or who start late will be recorded as DNF. Aid is not allowed while a runner is on course. The final remaining runner must complete an additional lap to be declared the winner. Minimum age to participate is 16 years.

Timed events use the same loop and follow the same Backyard rules, with finish determined by the clock rather than last runner standing. Spots in timed events are limited.

Registration opens on August 4, 2026 and registration closes when capacity is reached or on March 31 at 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time. There are no refunds. Registrations may be transferred to another runner until June 1, 2027 for a $20 administration fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
