Glen Lyon Trail Race
Glen Lyon Trail Race is a 15.5 mile off-road foot race held in remote Glen Lyon in the Perthshire hills on 6th June 2027. The route follows a loop of Loch Lyon, includes around six river crossings, and returns to Glen Lyon Dam. Shortly after the start runners face a steep climb followed by an undulating course for most of the distance, with about 1,500 ft of elevation gain.
The route is fully off road and has a water station at around eight miles. Camping is available at Glen Lyon Dam the night before the race, where runners toilets are provided; no open fires are allowed. Access to the start area is via single track road, and parking is organised at the front of the dam with marshals directing vehicles. The estate and Scottish Hydro require access at all times.
Runners must carry mandatory kit during the event; the required items include a foil blanket, water bottle or bladder, food or energy snacks, a working mobile phone with the race control number entered, a small first aid kit, and a race vest to hold these items. Attendance at the pre-race briefing is mandatory. The race fee includes a race memento and a goody bag; a technical race t-shirt is an optional extra.
Entry has no specific qualification requirement but entrants should be confident running over 15 miles with some elevation. The event has a cooling off and refund policy with a £15 administration fee within 30 days, a 50% refund available after 30 days up to 12 weeks before race day, and no refund within 12 weeks.
