Funest 50k @ Carter Rd
The Funest 50k @ Carter Rd is an endurance event held at Loyce E. Harpe Park in Mulberry, Florida. The race utilizes the mountain bike trails of an abandoned phosphate mine, featuring rolling hills that twist and turn through the landscape. Participants run on a mix of sand and dirt trails crafted specifically for off-road use. The event is organized by Ultra Ultras Events and is limited to 125 total participants across all distances.
The available race distances include:
- 50 km: Consists of five 10 km loops.
- 30 km: Consists of three 10 km loops.
- 10 km: Consists of a single loop.
The course is marked with over 600 indicators to guide runners along the path. There is a total time limit of 10 hours for the event. Aid stations are located at the start area and approximately at the 3.5-mile mark of the loop, providing water, soda, and electrolytes.
Participants can pick up their bibs at the park pavilion on the morning of the race. The start and finish area features various food options including quesadillas, hot dogs, hamburgers, and bacon. For the longer distances, additional items such as chicken, pulled pork, and brisket are served later in the day. All finishers receive socks, a sticker, and an award. Top overall male and female runners, as well as masters winners, receive specific awards. A portion of every registration fee is donated to Polk County Parks and Recreation for park maintenance.
