Fiery Gizzard Run - November 28, 2026
The Fiery Gizzard Run is a trail event on the Fiery Gizzard Trail in South Cumberland State Park, Tennessee, presented by HardWin Adventures. The course runs between Grundy Forest and Foster Falls and features waterfalls, large boulders, two-hundred-year-old hemlocks, ridgeline overlooks including Raven's Point, and steep, technical descents and climbs. The terrain alternates fast plateau running with rocky, rooty drops into gorges.
Distances
- Marathon: full out-and-back of the trail, about 3,800 feet of gain.
- Half Marathon: one traverse, slightly over 13.1 miles.
- 13 Mile Ruck: HardRuck division on the same traverse.
Field size is capped at 175 by the park. Aid stations are spaced roughly 6 to 8 miles apart; participants must carry water and calories between them. Stations supply Spring Energy gels, water, electrolytes and snacks, and the event is cupless. Timing chips are worn on the left ankle. Basic first aid and sweepers are provided; self sufficiency is emphasized and any rescue costs are the runner's responsibility.
The HardRuck division requires a weighted carry based on bodyweight with weighed equipment and random checks on course; athletes weigh in before the start. Awards include a custom finisher award for finishers and top male and female finishes. Race proceeds help maintain the park. Leashed dogs are permitted on course. Cold conditions are common in late November. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
