English Schools Fell Running Championships
The English Schools Fell Running Championships take place on Sunday 4 October 2026 at Sedbergh School, Lupton Fields LA10 5AB. The event is organised by the Fell Runners Association and uses mapped and marshalled fell courses.
Races are organised by school year with age limits defined as under specific ages on 31 August 2027. Distances and ascents for each category are:
- Year 7 under 13 on 31 August 2027: 3.5 km, 185 m ascent.
- Years 8 and 9 under 15 on 31 August 2027: 4.9 km, 305 m ascent.
- Years 10 and 11 under 17 on 31 August 2027: 6.3 km, 426 m ascent.
- Years 12 and 13 under 19 on 31 August 2027: 7.3 km, 425 m ascent.
All competitors must carry FRA kit comprising a good pair of fell or trail shoes, a waterproof top, hat and gloves. NO KIT - NO RUN. There will be road management in place; competitors should take care when crossing.
Courses use lower and higher fell, with twists and turns, a stream crossing, and a mix of short, sharp and more sustained climbs and descents across the local countryside. Race registration, briefings, starts and finishes are at Sedbergh School Lupton Fields. Maps and GPX files are provided for each category.
Entry fee is £8 plus a booking charge of £1. Entries close on 30 September 2026. Schools must start runners in at least three different age categories to qualify for the overall school prize; each school’s best four positions are scored.
