Défi des Escaliers Fizz
The Défi des Escaliers Fizz is a stair running event in Québec that uses the city stairways linking the Basse-Ville and the Haute-Ville and finishes in the downtown area at the Parc de l’Esplanade.
The courses start at the Place de l’Assemblée‑Nationale and pass by the majority of the staircases that connect the two parts of the city. Distances offered include:
- 19 km Fizz: about 40 staircases, 2353 steps.
- 14 km: about 30 staircases, 2163 steps.
- 9 km: about 20 staircases, 1106 steps.
- 4 km: 13 staircases, 520 steps.
- 2 km (youth): start on avenue Sainte‑Geneviève, intended for children aged 5 to 12.
The event is sanctioned ARGENT by Athlétisme Québec. Age minimums and time limits published for 2026 were: 19 km 14 years and over, 14/9/4 km 10 years and over, 2 km for ages 5 to 12; time limits vary by distance. Several course maps, GPX files and elevation profiles were made available for reference.
