Défi des Escaliers
Défi des Escaliers offers multiple urban race distances that use the stairways of Quebec City and finish downtown. Routes alternate between stair climbs and descents and cross most staircases linking Lower Town and Upper Town.
Distances offered:
- 19 km Fizz: nearly 40 staircases, 2353 steps
- 14 km: about 30 staircases, 2163 steps
- 9 km: around 20 staircases, 1106 steps
- 4 km: 13 staircases, 520 steps
- 2 km Youth Race
The start is located at Place de l’Assemblée-Nationale and the finish at Parc de l’Esplanade. The 2 km youth race departs from avenue Sainte-Geneviève rather than the Fontaine de Tourny; groups can be escorted from the information kiosk.
The event holds an ARGENT sanction from Athlétisme Québec. Each distance has specific age requirements and time limits: the 19 km requires participants to be 14 years or older, several distances require a minimum age of 10 years, and the youth race is for children aged 5 to 12. Course maps, elevation files and GPX tracks are provided for reference. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
