Dartmoor in a Day Ultra
Dartmoor in a Day is an off-road challenge across Dartmoor, open to runners and walkers on 5th September 2026. The route starts at Okehampton, passes through Postbridge and finishes at Ivybridge Community College.
Distances
- 50 km (approx 30 miles) from Okehampton to Ivybridge
- 30 km starting at Postbridge and following the same finish line
The route runs mainly across wild areas of open moor and is almost entirely off road. Highlights along the way include the East Okement valley, Hangingstone Hill, the East Dart valley, Bellever Tor, West Dart stepping stones, Ryder’s Hill, a clapper bridge over the upper Avon river, the Dartmoor Volcano and views along the Erme valley out to sea.
The event is presented as a challenge rather than only a race; cut off times at the final checkpoint are generous and transport to the end is available for those who do not complete the route. There are checkpoints with refreshment at two road crossings: Postbridge and Combestone Tor. Qualified Mountain Leaders act as mobile marshals and assist with route choice; participants may walk or run with them but are not obliged to do so.
Maps for the route can be downloaded for the Outdoor Active app, a GPX file is available, and recommended paper maps and kit information are provided in the participant handbook. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
