Run the Chessie - November 7, 2026
Run the Chessie is a multi-distance trail event on the seven-mile Chessie Nature Trail in Rockbridge County, Virginia. The trail parallels the Maury River and connects Lexington with Buena Vista. The surface is mostly smooth gravel and grass, about 10 feet wide, with a very gentle grade. The route follows former rail line and canal towpath sections and passes farmland, limestone cliffs, bamboo stands, and river corridors where wildlife may be seen.

- 26.2 Relay, four legs ~8.5, 4.6, 8.5, and 4.6 miles
All four race courses are USATF certified and the event is sanctioned by USATF; the marathon is a Boston qualifying course. Aid stations are located at the start/finish, turnarounds, and near the South River bridge, supplying water, Gatorade, fruit, and snacks; refill stations for reusable containers will be available. Porta-potties and a bag drop area are provided at key points along the course. Chip timing, custom finisher medals, race shirts, post-race food, awards for overall and age-group placings, and results posted online are included in the event services. A virtual option is available for each distance with mailed amenities and self-reported times; virtual participants are not eligible for awards.
Packet pickup is available the day before at a downtown packet location and on race morning. Registration is accepted online through RunSignUp. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
