Mountain Masochist Trail Run
The Mountain Masochist Trail Run takes place in Montebello, VA, with races offered over multiple distances. The event begins and ends at Montebello Campground and follows a historical MMTR route run in reverse toward the Mount Pleasant Loop, combining old and new trails.
The course moves south over dirt and gravel roads inside the National Forest and, with recent changes, includes more mountain terrain and single track and less gravel road. Near Mount Pleasant runners follow the Old Hotel Trail and old jeep roads toward Long Mountain Wayside. After the Long Mountain aid station the route uses dirt and old logging roads plus several miles of single track. The last aid station is at Porters Ridge; from there the course drops downhill about 3.5 miles to Rt 56 and the Montebello Campground finish. The route traverses areas of the Blue Ridge known for peak fall foliage.

National Geographic Map number 789 (Lexington / Blue Ridge Mts.) is recommended as the topographic map for the area. Camping site specific reservations are available through UltraSignup and cabin rentals are arranged through the Montebello Campground. A training run is scheduled in October starting at the Montebello Store, and trail work is planned for October 24. There is a pre-race briefing in Montebello and a post-race meal for finishers.
